THE COMPANY / History

HISTORY

Sitra Group's success story started on 31 March 1962 when Robert Saelens set up Inter Transport Saelens in Geluveld near Zonnebeke.

Martial and Frank Saelens, Robert's children, decided to move towards diversification. They specifically went in search of niche markets and specialised in the transport of foodstuffs in various forms. This proved to be a good choice, certainly in the light of the peaking demographic evolution. When you eat something today, there is every chance that your meal's ingredients were transported by Sitra.

Third generation
In the meantime the third generation of the Saelens family took up their places at the company. They too continued the further development of the company with ambition. Since 1998 Sitra has been focusing on expansion in Eastern Europe. In recent years we have also built up an enviable reputation in Russia, with global companies such as Coca-Cola making eager use of our services.

Ready for further growth
International expansion, joint ventures and a strategic take-over policy have made Sitra Group what it is today: a hypermodern transport company with strong ambitions of further growth.

Foodstuffs
At Sitra we have specialised in the transport of foodstuffs in all their forms. Our customers include yeast producers, chocolate producers, sugar producers, flour producers, producers of oils for consumption, etc.
